Bird Photographs from Gilbert, AZ, November 2012

I heard that there were American White Pelicans at the Gilbert Recharge Pond (GRP), so I went to see them. This post has some photographs from there, and also from the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch (RPWR). It’s the first time I’ve been to GRP so I didn’t know what to expect. I found that the area is fenced up like Fort Knox so it’s impossible to get very close. When I first arrived the Pelicans were at the closest point, which was lucky, because they didn’t stay there long. I got some quick shots before they moved behind the trees. GRP is on the west side of Gilbert Road between Ocotillo and Chandler Heights. I parked on Chandler Heights west of Gilbert road by the Eastern Canal, and walked along the canal. It’s a nice spot, if only you could get closer to it.

There were hundreds of Cormorants at the GRP.

GRP is close to the RPWR, so I stopped by there, and posted a few pictures.
