Black Crowned Night Heron and Blue Gray Gnatcatcher

I visited the Gilbert Riparian Preserve in December and January. This post has some bird photographs from those visits. The photos are in the gallery below.

I’ve posted Green Heron pictures in previous posts. I like the Green Heron’s eyes on the face on photo.

The Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher was very active, darting around between trees. I followed him around for about a half hour and took a lot of shots. Because he moved so quickly it was hard to focus. I got some shots that would have been really good if they had been better focused. The shot I show below is of the back of the bird, so you can’t see his white belly. However, you can see the distinct white eye ring and the blue-ish color.

It’s not often that you see the Black-Crowned Night Heron with his neck extended, so I was happy to get a shot of that.
