Trip to Oregon, November 2015

Mary Ann and I went to Portland in November. This post has a brief description of the trip and some photos.

We normally go to Portland in the summer when the weather is hot here in Phoenix and nice in Portland. We had a trip planned in September (with reservations made at Orcas Island for Mallory’s wedding), but decided to postpone due to the unplanned timing of my retirement. We left Phoenix on Southwest Airlines on Wednesday November 11 and returned on Monday November 16.

We were able to spend quite a bit of time with Mom. On the first night Aaron Kenny had dinner with us at Mom’s. It was nice to have a chance to catch up with him. On Thursday Jill came over to Mom’s, and we played Rummikub. It’s the first time we’ve played Rummikub, and we enjoyed it. It’s kind of like the card game of Rummy, but it uses tiles. We visited Jim and Felicia and family on Thursday. On Friday we had a great dinner at Bob and Garnet’s, and played ping-pong and ’31’ (a card game), and watched the Blazers. On Saturday Terry had a family gathering at her house. It was great to see everybody there. On Sunday we went to Mass at St. Therese with Mom and Jim and Felicia and the girls. We saw Aunt Bee at Mass, and a friend of Ricci’s from High School named Marianne. Afterwards Mary Ann, Mom, and I met with Tony and Christy a restaurant called Francis Xavier (on about 181st and Halsey). It was nice to visit with Tony and Christy, and the food was pretty good (we all got breakfast items). Sunday evening we brought dinner over to Ricci’s (made by Terry and Mary Ann at Terry’s house), and got to spend some more time with the twins, Cody and Austin. It was our first chance to see them, and they are now about 7 months old. On Monday morning Bob took us to a birding spot called Brown’s Ferry Park, which is a really nice spot. I got a few pictures there. Nothing great, but I am posting some. Thanks to all for your hospitality, and to Bob and Terry for putting us up (and putting up with us :)) at their home.

Our flight home was delayed by two hours at our stop-over in Sacramento, but it was uneventful other than that.

I am posting some pictures from the Saturday gathering and from Brown’s Ferry. There are three pictures from Terry’s phone of the ‘twins with twins’ and Jim and my birthday cake (thanks for the birthday cake :)) Here they are:

Nice photos of fam and of the birds. I am in LOVE with that Belted Kingfisher one. The layout and colors are amazing. I hope its ok I set in as my desktop background. That’s an award winner, though I think all yours are!!

Thanks, Jill. Of course, you can use the photo for your desktop background. I also like the red berries combined with the blue of the Kingfisher. I wish I could have gotten closer to the Kingfisher so the picture would be ‘crisper’.
