Sonoran Desert, November 13, 2018

Dave, Fr. Charlie, and I went out to the desert to see what we could find. We left from Dave’s at about 9:15. It was a nice sunny, cool day. The low was about 40, and the high about 65.

Our first stop was the Sonoran Desert National Monument East Trail Access, which is south past the town of Maricopa on highway 238 (see here for details). It is a fairly lush desert and a beautiful spot.

Next we went to the Painted Rock Petroglyph Site and Campground (see here). We went on Interstate 8 past Gila Bend. There’s a sign on the freeway for the petroglyph site (it goes by the Solana Solar Generating Plant). There is a large hill with lots of boulders on it, most all of which have petroglyphs. I included just a few shots of some of the petroglyphs.

We tried to go to the Painted Rock Reservoir, but it is still closed.
