Wichita, December 2019

Mary Ann and I visited Mary Ann’s family in Wichita. This post has a few family pictures. I also included pictures from the hail storm when we got home, and a Cooper’s Hawk on our street light pole.

It’s become a tradition to hold a Phelps family Christmas get together early in December. Jane and Albert came from Dallas, and the rest of the Phelps clan (5 of Mary Ann’s sisters) all live in Wichita.

We flew on Southwest on Thursday at 10:35 AM. Stan picked us up at the airport. We went to Teresa and Stan’s and saw Jessica and the baby (Griffyn), and got the truck for our transportation. Thanks to Stan and Teresa for the car!

We spent some time at Jennifer’s, mostly with the three youngest kids. One day we made an apple pie (yum!), and another day we baked bread. We also played some board games. We went to Chris’s basketball game, which was fun. We won by a final score was 5 to 3. For a while I thought the first basket would win 🙂.

We stayed at Nancy’s, and, as usual, had a wild and crazy time there 🙂. Thanks to Nancy for her hospitality.

On Saturday we had the family gathering at Nancy’s house. There was a big group, and it was fun to see everybody.

We flew home on Monday on the 2:40 flight. There was about an hour weather delay (we had to circle Albuquerque for 30 minutes waiting for weather in Phoenix to clear up). When we landed we got a text from our neighbor with a picture of a layer of hail in the yard at her house. This is unusual for us – it looked like snow in Phoenix! When we got home it was dark, but I decided to take some pictures anyway, using a very long time exposure. I included a couple of them. They’re not great, but they document the hail.
