Bob Swanson’s 80th Birthday Party, June 30, 2019

Mary Ann and I went to Oregon for Bob’s 80th birthday party (his actual birthday is June 24th). This post has mostly family pictures that I took in Terry and Bob’s back yard, and a travelogue.

We traveled on Southwest Airlines, arriving in Portland at 6:45 Thursday evening (6/27/2019). We rented a Mitsubishi Outlander, which was a nice little SUV. We stayed at Tony and Christy’s – thanks for your fantastic hospitality! On Thursday night we went to a great restaurant near Tony and Christy’s that is owned by one of their friends. The restaurant is called Arrivederci’s. Great food and live music.

On Friday morning I helped Tony move some chairs and tables for his friend’s (Dan’s) party, and then we went to Elk Rock Island for a couple of hours. We thought we might see nesting eagles there, but no luck. Next stop was Bob and Garnet’s. We had dinner at Peter’s Bar and Grill, where we met Bobby, and then played Yahtzee at B&G’s (Friday night is Yahtzee night at Bob and Garnet’s). Danny was at B&Gs and it was nice to visit with him too.

On Saturday we visited with Jim and Felicia and the girls. It was great to see them all. On Saturday afternoon (at 4:00 PM) I went golfing at Rose City with brother Bob, and nephew Bob. It was fun. I only remember the good shots 😊.

Sunday was the party for Bob’s 80th. We had a great time. Thanks to Terry and Bob for hosting the large gathering.

Monday morning we took the Max train downtown with Mike and Jill, and Tony and Christy. We walked the Tilikum Crossing Bridge (a pedestrian bridge) over the Willamette, and then along the Eastbank Esplanade north to the Morrison Bridge (past the Marquam and Hawthorne Bridges), crossed the river again, and caught the Max to Pine State Biscuits for breakfast. Mike was a great tour guide, and Tony is a wealth of information about the bridges. Portland is beautiful, and it was a beautiful day for it. It was also Mike’s birthday.

On Monday afternoon I went golfing again with Bob & Bob. We golfed 6 holes before a storm blew in, so we cut the round short.

Tuesday we caught our plane at 10:40, and then home sweet home!

We had a great trip. Thanks to everybody for your hospitality.
