Mary Ann, Father Charlie, and I went to Boyce Thompson Arboretum on April 25, 2025. We got there at around 9:00 and spent about 3 hours. We had lunch in Superior (at Los Hermanos).
Probably the highlight for me was the Gila Monster. It’s the first one I’ve seen. They are large (approximately 20″ long and 2.5 lbs) and venomous lizards with sharp teeth and strong jaws. They will bite and hold on, and deliver the venom, which is powerful and painful, but not fatal. Fortunately they are slow moving, and stay away from people. They are the largest lizard found in the US, and one of only two venomous lizards in North America.
We went first to the Demonstration Gardens, and then counterclockwise around the main trail. We saw the usual cast of characters, except for the Sora, which is the first time I’ve seen one at BTA.
Another great day at beautiful BTA!
